Team Expanded: Meet Rob LaFaver

We're excited to introduce Rob LaFaver, one of the newest members of the Chimera Integrations team. With a rare mix of experience in electronic security integration and clinical healthcare leadership, Rob brings a unique perspective to the table. Based in Northern New York, he's already making an impact by combining deep technical knowledge with a genuine connection to the community.

Q: Can you walk us through your background?

Rob: I spent nearly four years working in security integration sales. I was regularly inside hospitals, helping with system integrations like nurse call, cameras, and security. That got me interested in how hospitals operate. I had already spent 18 years as an EMT and firefighter, so I was familiar with emergency response. The move into healthcare felt natural.

In 2012, I went back to college to become a registered nurse. I graduated in early 2014 and started working in Syracuse at Upstate and Crouse Hospitals. After that, I returned home to Canton when my father was diagnosed with cancer and took a position in the ICU, which eventually led me into the ER, and then into trauma care at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.

Q: What areas of healthcare have you worked in?

Rob: I’ve worked across many departments—ICU, ER, NICU, trauma, neuro ICU, and even cardiac operating rooms. I also participated in trauma flights by helicopter. Later in my career, I transitioned into management roles and served as Director of Nursing for two different facilities. I’ve seen healthcare from all angles, both clinical and administrative, and that really helps in understanding how technology can support staff and improve care.

Q: How does that healthcare experience shape your work in security integration?

Rob: It gives me a dual perspective. I understand what hospital staff need from technology to do their jobs well, and I know what administrators need to meet compliance, budget, and staffing goals. Technology should serve both ends. I’ve been in situations where having the right system in place made a real difference. Whether it’s preventing theft of services, improving safety, or even protecting staff when incidents are questioned, I’ve seen firsthand how important good integration is.

Q: You’re covering Northern New York for Chimera. What’s special about this area to you?

Rob: This is home. I was born and raised in Canton, and my family has deep roots in the North Country. People up here do business differently. It’s personal. Clients want to work with someone they trust, not just a name on a quote. I know the local businesses and the people who work in them. Some are friends, some are family. It means something to represent a company that shows up, builds relationships, and sticks around after the sale.

When we protect a fire department or a healthcare center, I know who is inside that building. It makes the work feel more meaningful.

Q: What kinds of technology are you most excited about?

Rob: CCTV and door access systems have changed a lot since I first worked in this field. The technology is smarter and more operationally valuable. You’re not just recording video anymore—you’re improving processes and safety. Nurse call systems are another favorite. I used them every day in healthcare, so I know how much of an impact they can have. From workflow efficiency to staff safety, a well-integrated system really matters.

Q: What do you enjoy outside of work?

Rob: I’m a big hockey fan and love going up to Ottawa to watch the Senators. My son used to play goalie, so hockey has been part of our lives for a long time. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, barbecuing, and relaxing. We just got a golden doodle puppy named Bear, and he’s a ball of energy. We’re also putting in a pool, so I’m looking forward to enjoying that this summer.
